Aloha e everybody ! Mark told me about Atta Isaacs, and I really love his guitar playing. Do you know if he made some solo recordings ? I can't find any on the web !
Auntie Maria =================== My "Aloha Kaua`i" radio show streams FREE online every Thu & Fri 7-9am (HST) www.kkcr.org - Kaua`i Community Radio "Like" Aloha Kauai on Facebook, for playlists and news/info about island music and musicians!
That New Hawaiian Band CD is still in the racks at some stores--and it shows as available at the Cord International site and at buy.com. Auntie M.--can't you re-stock via Cord?
I believe that there may be an Atta re-issue in the works, along the lines of the Hana Ola/Cord Ray Kane and Leonard Kwan collections. (I hope I'm not mis-remembering a conversation with George Winston here.) Otherwise, it's a matter of tracking down his session work on a range of LPs. Then there's the 1965 LP "This is Eddie Kamae & The Sons of Hawai`i" (never reissued on CD as far as I know) where Atta replaced Gabby. One way to track Atta recordings is via George Winston's (ever-evolving) on-line slack key source "book"-- http://www.dancingcat.com/skbook2-recordings.shtml#AttaIsaacs. And the recorded-tunings page for C tunings lists Atta tracks and albums: http://www.dancingcat.com/skbook5-hirecordingscbb.shtml
Interesting factoid: the "Two Slack Key Guitars" album was supposed to be an Atta project (the arrangements are his), but Gabby got the top billing because he was the star. My own suspicion is that Atta--who did a lot of session work with Gabby--had a considerable influence on the development of the "Gabby Band" sound.
