Patrick, I admire you Big Time (you are right in my Ballpark, if that doesn't offend you), so I hope you won't take this amiss.

But, folks, I used to hang at a site called "The 13th Fret" and, now, Patrick has been trying to educate those EADGBE Guyz an' Gals about so-called Alternate Tunings, and they are mostly all mystified. Truth to tell, I am (not exactly) mystified by why those folks should be so troubled by turning those little screws on the headstock. I know most of them semipersonally and I know they play things in a few other tunings. But the reason they do is because some guru, like El McMeen (who is a sweet guy and knows *lots*) tells them to. Or they know about McManus or Bensusan, and copy them by rote.

Patrick is on a quest that all of us have already attained. Keep Patrick in your thoughts and bless his efforts of conversion to a higher understanding.

Geev 'um StringBreaker - EADGBE NOT!

I have heard of it, but never tried, I ran it through the tuning applet (mahalo nui loa to Mr Quade for sharing this amazing tool wit us) by the way, & it seems E,G#,E,G,A,D, seem to be a bit more user friendly for turning around & chord shapes. I'm gonna yank the keys around a bit here & give it a try

CGDGBE, CGDFBD, CGEGBD, CGEGAE, DADF#AC#, DADF#AD, DGDEGD, DADF#BD, CFCFAF, and for the modal types: EADGAE, DGDGCD. Buy strings by the dozen, they're cheaper.

Let's see, in theory around 440 hz we have 12 half tones from C through B. Again, in theory, each of the 6 strings could be any one of these 12 notes. This would give a total of 12 for the 1st string, 12 for the 2nd string, 12 for the 3rd string,... A total of 12 x 12 x 12 x 12 x 12 x 12 or 2,985,984 possible tunings - and this is just the notes in one octave!!

The dropped EEEGAD expirement was a flying failure, but it did have a nice bluesy mode to it. Now I ask, Keola does some pieces with a minor flavor, does anyone know how this is accomplished? Open minor tuning of som sort?
