IZ GOES GOLD AGAIN
Mountain Apple Company/Big Boy Records is proud to announce that Israel Kamakawiwo‘ole has been awarded a Gold Record by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), for his album "Alone in IZ World." This is second album by Israel to be certified gold. His album "Facing Future" was certified Gold by the RIAA in 2002. A Gold Record is awarded when the RIAA certifies that an album has sold more than 500,000 copies. This honor reflects the continuing growth of IZ’s popularity throughout the world. Mountain Apple Company/Big Boy Records remains the only Hawaii record company to have ever received a Gold Record. Israel’s producer Jon de Mello said that “given the universal acceptance of Israel’s music, there are no limits to his music’s capacity to connect to music lovers everywhere”. This is a reflection of Israel’s great talent and the hard work of everyone associated with this project.
Israel continues to make the people of Hawaii proud. His music was featured in a nationwide Easter radio and television campaign for Hallmark Greeting Cards. The response to the music on the commercial was so great that Hallmark is now utilizing IZ for their Mothers Day campaign. The hit TV series Cold Case also found “Over the Rainbow” perfect for an episode and the producers of the show were inundated with calls about how perfect the music fit the scene….an unusual occurrence in Hollywood today.
The close of 2004 catapulted IZ to #61 in the National industry bible Radio and Records Adult Contemporary chart, an honor not taken lightly. Billboard’s World Catalog Chart has IZ’s "Facing Future" and "Alone In IZ World" in the #1 & 2 positions, with "Facing Future" having been charted in Billboard for a phenomenal 400 plus weeks. "Alone In IZ World" has remained in the top five of the Billboards chart since it’s release in September 2001.
IZ’s music continues to be featured in advertising, film and television in places as diverse as Australia, Austria, Spain, Italy and of course the U.S.

I bet Iz will eventually go gold for Iz In Concert, and E Ala E, resulting from natural upsells to people currently enjoying the above two cds. Perhaps they will all go gold eventually. Some of these people will find their way to other Hawaiian artists.
Also, advertising people and film makers might find music of other Hawaiian artists to fit their requirements. They certainly have a profound pool of compelling music to choose from. But for now Iz continues to be the bridge to the mainland public. God bless him. |
