Does anyone know of a listing, on-line or otherwise, which gives recorded versions/sources for each song. Something like:
Title Artist/Album/Label Tuning
Ahe Lau Makani Dennis Kamakahi/Pua'ena/DC B flat Ozzie Kotani/To Honor a Queen/DC G major
Lae la lae lae O'Brian Eselu/Maka ?
etc etc
As a beginner, this would be really useful, and perhaps for anyone. Is this something we could do on Taro patch? or does this go under the heading of "you've found a need, now fill it!"
Ross
Oh, by the way, I'd really like to find other recorded versions of the above songs; maybe even tab, whatever. I know I've heard Lae la lae lae by Gabby or Cyril but don't remember which, and don't seem to have that album/CD. Help appreciated.
Aloha
Oh, thanks to Dancing Cat for listing the tuning's used by their artists!

Always within easy reach from my keyboard is *The Island Music Source Book* by Brett C. Ortone (Honolulu: Olinda Road Distribution, 1999, $24.95). The book is 737 8.5x11" pages indexing thousands of recordings by song title and artist--all the information you'd want, except for the tunings of slack key songs.
Olinda Road is now out of business as a music distributor, so I don't know what the status of the book is. I got mine in Honolulu last year, and while I think that mele.com used to carry it, I don't believe that is the case now. A quick Google search didn't yield any useful results, but maybe someone in Honolulu can find a copy in a store.

Thanks to you both.
cpatch; I'll have a look at those sites in a bit.
Russell, I found the "Island Music Source Book" at: http://www.booklines.com/BOOK/BMU/494810.html and it says they're in-stock, so I have one on the way.
Oh yeah, I opened my eyes some more and went a little deeper at Mele.com and found the good stuff in the links there too.
thanks again
