A First Edition of Keola Beamer's 1973 slack key instruction book is for sale on eBay with an auction end date of May 13. There are no bids so far and I'm guessing someone here is looking for it.

Interesting bit of trivia: the binding on the copy on auction is saddle-stapled, while the one I have on loan uses a spiral comb. And my copy lacks the illustrated title page. (Still has the Harry's Music $5.95 price sticker, though.)
The edition to get would be the Oak reprint with the soundsheet record with the songs, though I'd bet it's incredibly rare with the record present, let alone playable after 28 years.

I don't know how rare the Oak Publications one is but that's what I have and the record is quite playable. I think I got it on eBay a few years ago. I would be happy to send copies of the recording to anyone who gets Keola's permission for this.

I actually have this book that I purchased in the 1970's. I use it as a reference now. |

I also have the original book with a playble sound sheet. It's nicely written with good tunes included. I was a senior in high school when this came out! Yikes, I'm getting old! |

I've picked up several copies of the Oak publications copy over the past few years through various sources with the soundsheet record intact. Price has always been between $10 and $20 so it's not that rare. (I've kept one copy, the others have been for friends.)
The 1973 copy was harder to come by but still not that expensive. |

I actually found both books on eBay by chance. The purchased both the 1973 (Beamer Hawaiiana, Inc) and 1977 (Oak Publications) Slack Key Books through Buy It Now. If you have any questions on them please let me know. |

If anyone has the Oak publications version with the soundsheet record and wants a clean copy of the record on CD, email me. You'll have to prove you have the book! |

Okay,
From what I can tell, there are three songs in the 1977 Oak Publication that are not in the 1973 book: Holo Wa'apa, Kamakani 'Olu 'Olu, and Pua Lililehua. I believe the songs in Keola Beamer's Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar - Five Easy Pieces are included in the 1977 and 1973 books however I do not know if there are differences in the arrangements.
