I wanted to give people plenty of time to think about two events this fall.

1) The Annual Slack Key and Ukulele Workshop which is held in Waimea on the Big Island. They don't have their web site updated for this year's event, but here is the web site for last year: http://www.kahilutheatre.org/ukulele.htm
It is held the 2nd week of November, usually.

2) On the 3rd week of November, the Ukulele Guild of Hawaii presents it's statewide exhibition, and it is a real uke fest! The web site for last year features a lot of very well known artists - many of whom will be back this year.

Re: Waimea Slack & Uke, Kahilu Theatre's website sez they'll be posting the next season's calendar in August. Meanwhile, found this on Dennis Kamakahi's website calendar:

NOVEMBER 11 - 13 - Dennis and David Kamakahi at the Kahilu Theater Slack Key / Ukulele Camp, Waimea, Hawai'i (Big Island)

I was wondering if anything was happening "Uke wise" in O'ahu mid July? I will be there for a week 9-15 July and wanted to take a Uke with me in hopes of gaining some knowlege and experience. I had heard the someone held Uke sessions at the Waikiki Hilton but do not know any other information.
Aside from catching some warm water waves at the Kaiser Bowl, maybe there will be a potential to learn while there. Any help would be appreciated.

Herb Ohta Jr. http://www.herbohtajr.com/eng/e_top.html has a regular teaching gig. Maybe he can find some time for you. He appears in a uke duo with David Kamakahi http://www.herbohtajr.com/eng/e_eventinfo/e_event.html regularly in the beachside Tropic Bar & Cafe at the Hilton Hawaiian Village.

July 10 the Na Mele Nei free concert at the Ward Warehouse Ampitheater will be a Hawaiian Music Singalong with Nancy Gustafssen & Victor Rittenbrand. When I attended one of these there were several uke players in the audience.

Check the calendar of events at the Aloha Tower marketplace http://www.ebizhi.com/alohatower/escal/calendar.php - Led Ka`apana often demonstrates a few little licks on the `ukulele during his Tuesday show at Kapono's. Chai's Island Bistro features a range of top Hawaiian performers. In the past Jake Shimabukuro has appeared there.

Fran, I want to thank you for your guidence. The Na Mele Nei last sunday was filled with good spirit and ohana. There were 3 uke's in the audience that strumed along and music sheets were handed out to anyone who wanted to participate. Also during the event I was told of the Ukulele jam session that is held behind the Waikiki police station Thursday and Sunday evenings from 8-10pm.
Tonight I hope to see Herb Ohta at the Village.
Surf, sun and music....Life is good!

John, I'm so glad you're getting such memorable experiences. You've certainly paid me back with the info on the `ukulele jam.

Thanks,
Fran
