Hey Orange, let me add to your JAKE thread...Last night Jake played in a dinner/concert here on Guam... I was so lucky to be able to attend with my wife and son, When I heard he was going to perform here..I was like "????!!" ..my son was like "!!!!". We couldn't miss this one! Anyway, we were all blown away, the guy is awesome and listening to his CD or watching a vid doesn't do justice to seeing his live performance.

It was a smaller venue with another popular local band as the main..about 150 people tops.. Seems like more than a few in attendance never really heard of Jake, but we was there just to see him, even had a few fans from Japan who flied over just for this performance, some females were even seated at our table cheering and very excited, they even had a small plastic figure of Jake jamming, holding his right hand in the air complete with a tiny ukulele! hardcore fans indeed!

I even got to have small chat with him a few times before and after his gig, and he is truely the gentleman and very cool, felt at ease talking to him and it seemed like I was talking to an old acquaintance from back in the islands. Hope he returns to Guam someday and I even hinted to him that next time he returns, if its possible, to hold an uke workshop for us uke heads here.

From here, he heads out to Saipan today for a performance..then heads back to Guam tomorrow to play in a larger outdoor "island music" venue.

Your signature has reached the limit of awesomeness...

Saw Jake on the morning news KHON yesterday. He played a couple songs off his new album. Interesting to see his long hair look and the holes in his ukulele created by his intense strumming.

Thought I'd pen a verse or two for Jake. Here it is:
http://www.tropicalstormhawaii.com/cgi-bin/view.cgi?pid=song&song=ps/jake_shimabukuro.txt

Jake Shimabukuro (Larry W. Jones 06/21/2005) (song#3805)

Jake Shimabukuro
Plays on the ukulele
Over where tradewinds blow
He can really play that thing
Really make it sing
Jake is a swingin' island hero

Jake Shimabukuro
Digs that tropical jive
He makes the islands come alive
He can play every note
Every ukulele player ever wrote
Give Jake Shimabukuro a big hi-five

Jake jazzes up his ukulele
He has fingers to control it
All of his fans extol it
And when he brings Bach and Handel in
He can make it sound like a mandolin
Jake Shimabukuro is an island fit

When Jake's ukulele is on parade
In Waikiki, it never is a fluke
The music is a quick island serenade
When Jake is picking on his favorite uke
Jake Shimabukuro in a ukulele jam
Is the best ukulele player what am

Jake, Jake, Jake Shimabukuro
Over where the tradewinds blow

Author of 4,000 Hapa Haole song lyrics.

Here's some more "Jake the Grasshopper" lyrics:

http://www.tropicalstormhawaii.com/cgi-bin/view.cgi?pid=song&song=ps/hey_mr_ukulele.txt

Hey Mr Ukulele (Larry W. Jones 11/27/2005) (song#3925)

Hey, Mr Ukulele
Play an island tune for me
Play, Mr Ukulele
A Jake Shimabukuro melody
We'll all give you a hand
In our bare feet
We'll keep hummin' while you keep strummin'
That Jake Shimabukuro ukulele beat

Hey, Mr Ukulele
Play another grasshopper tune
Fast, Mr Ukulele
A showstopper under the moon
Let's hear your ukulele talk
Show your fingers dancin' across the strings
Do that Shimabukuro walk
Flow with the romancin' your ukulele brings
Play, Mr Ukulele
A Jake Shimabukuro melody

Hey, Mr Ukulele
Play for us all here by the shore
Play, Mr Ukulele
Who could ever ask for more
Tropic stars sure have a pull
When the tropic moon is full
Keep strummin' til you make that ukulele break
Hey, Mr Ukulele
Play, Mr Ukulele
A Jake Shimabukuro melody for me
