Jake Shimabukuro played on the shores of old Lake Erie last evening. It was the first time I've ever seen him in person. Boy, can that lad play! He did everything from Shubert's "Ave Maria" to a completely wild version of "Wipe Out" and about everything in between. His medley of Beatles' tunes was especially cool. After the show I asked him a question about strings and he handed me his 'ukulele and told me to check it out. He was extremely gracious and taught me some new rolls to practice. How cool! If you ever get the chance to see him it's really worth it.

Jake is such a talented, gracious, humble young man. He's back in Hawai`i right now, but will be performing allllllll over the mainland this summer -- from east coast to west coast, from north to south. Check his site's calendar for updates: http://www.jakeshimabukuro.com/ |
