One could begin with Hula Blues.

Did he write anything else in the genre of Hula Blues? Or, did anyone else?

He left a mark on the Hawaiian music world, part of the cadre of composers like Sonny Cunha and Johnny Almeida brought the music of the mainland into Hawaiian music before WWII.
It's amazing that a musician who played in his band in 1929 is still performing today: Bill Tapia.

Sonny Cunha is related to Rick Cunha... a friend from Mason Williams band of the early 80's...and still gigs when Mason does his Symphonic Bluegrass thing..occassionally I thinks.

ah, Alabama in 1980...great times at Kudzu High..too bad I was 28.
Growin' up is hard to do.

While initially I wasn't as curious about the Hapa-Haole side, there does seem to be some great enthusiasts that crossed those music tracks...
There are just Seven degrees of separation...and Two degrees in some cases!
Rick has released some good versions of his Uncle's vintage Hawaiian...and there seems to be alot.
Haven't seen Rick's California studio...think it's in Van Nuys or outside LA...buy I've overdubbed to tracks started there...

Sorry, I forgot about this post...
who is this Kapila Kane?

True, I live at the western edge of the Great Plains...
But the Rockies are in sight.
When I drive in our mountains, the clouds and mist around our 54 14er's--some of volcanic origins...and the moments of mystical light exude a Hawaii-like feel. The oceans have receded, but I still feel them.

And when I'm listening to Gabby, Iz, Led, Dennis, Hapa, Makana, Ka'au Crater Boys, and all the rest...the geography feels ancient and screams connection...right here on Kapila's Island.

And the Aspens and the Palms are Sisters...
Aspens...Tall, swaying, and leaves singing...
An aspen grove outside Aspen Colorado is the largest living organism on earth...

Is this what they call Continental Drift?

I can help you with some of the questions about Johnny Noble, my dad used to sing in his band. Uncle Bill Cogswell (writer "Little Grass Shack in Kealakekua Hawaii") was one of my dad's best friends as was Nane Aluli, (Aunty Irmgard Aluli's husband).
They were all from the early big band jazz era of the late '20's thru '30's.

That is so cool to have 'ohana ties, like Peter does, to the "golden era" of Hawaiian music. Even if the music isn't played much anymore, the influence of it is everpresent, even in slack key. Mahalo to Peter for sharing.

Hi Folks,
Having been there for 20 years, I know what happens to a person's mind once the month of September rolls into the Front Range of Colorado. Allow me to explain what is happening to our dear friend Kapila Kane:

First, one begins to feel cheated by such a short summer.
Second, sandals and slippahs are no longer an option.
Third, one finds oneself dressing in progressively thicker clothing and more layers.
Fourth, one begins to notice how quickly the sun is setting behind the Rockies.
Fifth, one tries to tell oneself that there are the beautiful aspen gold and the first pristine snows to look forward to.
Finally, one begins to check the internet for cheap fares to tropical islands.

Aloha,
-Konabob

Hey Bob, are you and Shirley here in Colorado for your visit?
Hope we didn't miss you.
It's been nice here...brain does drift though.
Does anyone else see what I see?

Is that bow tie really a camera?
