Does anyone know of tab for this one by Queen Lili'u? John Keawe played it in concert in Seattle recently and I just about cried. I think Queen Lili'u's sadness and bravely not giving in to it really came through after all these years - more than a century! So, I'd love to learn it and would appreciate if anyone can help me with the project.
And a word to Lili'uokalani (if you read TaroPatch.net discussions): You permanently own a piece of my heart, Dear Lady.

I don't know of any tab, but it is one of my favorite songs. It's full of veiled references to to her detention and her love for Hawai'i. I think she wrote some of the most beautiful poetry that mixed Hawaiian language with English, which gives us a glimpse into how modern Hawaiians spoke in the late 1800s. Jerry Santos and Haunani Apoliona of Olomana did a definitive vocal version. Jesse Tinsley |

Mahalo, Jesse -
I've gotten help with the Tab and now have ordered the "Enduring Pride" Olomana album. I am glad you have sent me in their direction. It was also done by Pahoehoe and can be downloaded for $1.25 from Hawaiian-MP3.com

Aloha E Jesse -
I have gotten the Olomana version and you're so right! I've only played it about a million times and I'm not tired of it yet. Mahalo for the lead.

I'm glad you got the recording. I think that Haunani Apoliona has the perfect voice for traditional music, mellow but robust, disciplined but gentle, with perfect pitch and diction. Her voice contrasts nicely with Jerry Santos' nasal tenor. And when she sings background, she and Jerry blend like one voice. Her rendition of "Waimanalo" is another example of how well she renders a stately Hawaiian love song. And mahalo for the extra help on the CD production, Mark! Jesse Tinsley |
