After a recent George Kahumoku Jr workshop in San Diego. Several of us who had not met each other before, were pleased to find others, residing close by, that shared the same passion for learning, sharing slack key knowledge, and as novice or advanced a player they may be just playing together until our fingers drop off.
We decided to form the Southern California Slack Key Society as a means of having a central point of reference for a list other be's and would be players. We hope to have a periodic gathering of one and all and will advise players of those close to them that have an interest in a little backyard jamming.
Rules are simple No Dues - Have Fun (Shirts and shoes required)
Starting on 10/7 several of us are meeting weekly at my office in the Kearney Mesa area in San Diego.
Anyone interested in having their name added to the list and joining our band of merry men (would like to add women too) drop an e-mail to me at socalslackey @ hotmail.com
All are welcome to attend our weekly sessions, but as the meeting night is not locked in stone yet, please send e-mail to confirm when the meeting will be and directions on how to get here.
Thanks
Don Narup

i wanted to say mahalo nui loa to don for pulling together the first-ever southern california slack key society gathering (and for supplying the space, refreshments, and encouragement). there were nine of us having a hoot. it was great to meet some of the folks who i've only known through this board.
for those of you in the greater san diego area (which slack key pete defines to stretch up to riverside!), keep your ears open for the next meeting!
aloha no, keith
