I have no idea why am doing this, save to expose a mellower side of myself.

This is a special http://home.comcast.net/~bomelia/nanea3_mod.mp3 tune (Ray Kane, my hero)

The name of it is Nanea Kou Maka I Ka Le'ale'a, loosley translated, it means "that look on your face". Read into it what you will, you are probably correct. :)

I forgot about the "when in pleasure" part, but knew it had that connotation. I love playing it.

Aloha All,

For what it's worth, I recorded this song about 5 years ago on my first CD "Kukuna Mehana" it was the first song I ever learned from Ray Kane. I had Puakea Nogelmeier as my Hawaiian consultant on this recording and he was gracious enough to provide a really nice translation....tastefully done for this song. Most Hawaiian songs are not so straight forward, and hide a little of the meaning. (as I'm sure most of you know) But this one is pretty straight ahead. If you have a copy of the CD check it out, or ask one of your friends who has it to provide it. I think it's worth checking out. A hui hou..Ray

BTW, I just realized that my orginal version was "mono" coming out of only one speaker. Mono part is ok, but I did not like the single speaker thing...so I fixed where it comes out both now. Same link.

Do not know how to make it small...by definition, it already is small. Perhaps there are small codecs... sorry!

jwn,

you edited your post!! hehehe...

Well, in this forum, I can take useful criticism. Where I live (huntsville, al, 1.5 hours south of nashville), there is very little audience for slack. Most of my friends do not get it. Thats OK. I do work hard at it and want to get better. First, I would not have posted it if I did not think it sounded OK...I'm too self critical. But, if someone picks up on rythm and/or intonation issues, I want to know. I appreciate your kind comments...sorry if my request came off a bit nerdy (I am a nerd, I build missiles for a living!)

Mike

ps: where the heck is the spell checker?

Mike,
Too bad I didn't know you were in Huntsville. I was just there a few weeks ago to talk to some bubbas at Northrop Grumman. I would have brought my "kika" for a little kanikapila. Maybe next time.

I enjoyed that very much, Mike. It is one of my favorite numbers and one that I do play. I really like some of the innovations that you've added. Well done!

I particularly like Ray Kane's version of it.

Aloha,
John A.
