Well actually just a little north of Memphis in the town of Millington.
Aloha, my name is Jon Montilla. I am with the Navy stationed at Naval Support Activity Mid-South for the next three years through 2009. I was stationed in Hawaii from April 1998 through October 2002. Since leaving Hawaii, I moved to San Diego, to New Orleans, and now Memphis/Millington. Memphis is the birthplace of the Blues and is also known for its steak and ribs. Also, FEDEX is based here in Memphis. I started collecting slack key tabs in 1999 but didn't really start playing slack key on any type of instrument until December 2004. Now I play almost every single day. I own 5 Martin guitars, survived Hurricane Katrina with my house intact, and am spreading a little aloha wherever I go. I married in Queen Liliuokalani Gardens in Honolulu, Hi and my daughter was born in Tripler Army Medical Center. My family and I miss Hawaii dearly. Someday we will retire in Hawaii. If you need me for anything you can contact me at jgmontilla @ aol.com. Aloha!!!

Aloha e Papamonty,
I've tried to email you, but I keep getting my emails to you bounced back as undeliverable - direct or thru TP. Thought you should know in case you're missing other messages, too.

Jon, I am in the Naval Reserve (O6) and was born in Tripler way back in (oh never mind --clue -- before Hawaii was a state). My first ship was an old FRAMII destroyer out of Pearl Harbor. I used to ride my bike down from Aiea Heights in the morning and get a shipmate to drive me all-a-way back up - got real tired 'cause I was the DCA. I used to play an old Applause (cheap version of an Ovation) on the fantail while out at sea. Met Ray Kane at the PHNSY one day while he was takin a break with some kanaka under a tree - he was playing ki ho 'alu. I didn't know what it was or appreciate the event much at the time. I had the privelege of serving on an (O5) Selection Board in Millington two years ago so I know the pretty country you are in. Welcome Aboard Taro Patch! If you are going to retire in Hawaii, buy your house now, 'cause things are getting REAL EXPENSIVE -- especially property taxes.
