Aloha from SF. I thought I would introduce myself. I only registered a few weeks ago. My friend on this board told me about it so I registered. We both went to Pearl City and we learned guitar after high school cause we weren't "cool" enough to play school and didn't want to play what everyone else plays (ie. Tears in Heaven, More than words, etc.) We taught ourselves how to play for the most part and now we're bonified guitar players I suppose. I moved to SF for college some years back and she stayed on O'ahu. I play in a rock band now but I still study slack-key which I learned from my dad and self-study. I see there is a few people in the bay area who play. I'd be interested to know of any slack-key events going on down here if any.

Keala,
E komo mai. Tomorrow night in San Jose is our monthly Hawaiian Open Mic at Espresso Gardens Cafe. It's a great way to meet fellow TPers and listen to some music. There's a lot going on in the Bay Area. Just check out the varioys forums.

Howzit Keala. Great to see another PC Charger on Taropatch! I joined Taropatch a couple of months ago and you can see my post a few lines below yours. There's quite a bit of slack key/Hawaiian music activity here in the Bay Area. If you can swing it, come down to the San Jose open mic tomorrow evening. There's a lot of great talent, the crowd and fellow performers are full of aloha, and it's always a fun time. Plus, no cover charge. Don't forget to bring your instrument!
There are also a couple of kanikapilas this month, including the one Sil is helping to organize at Nani's Donut Shoppe in Hayward, and Aunty Cathe's one at her place in Mill Valley. Both Sil and Aunty Cathe are good friends of mine. See their postings under the Kanikapila forum.
Also, feel free to contact me via the Taropatch link if you want to get together to jam out here in the East Bay.
Aloha,
Doug

THanks for the in's folks. I lived here so long and never knew all the stuff going on. I don't get out of the city much but I'm sure to get out to the Open Mic in San Jose sooner or later and I'll be on it from here on.
thanks Keala |
