Hi everybody!
My name is Roel. I'm from the Netherlands. I "discovered" slack key about a year ago. I ordered Ozzie's book and started playing. Due to a period of sickness I didn't continue playind slack key untill this month.
Apart from slack key guitar, I try my luck on the uke playing the jazz standard kind of stuff, I'm playing mandolin, with which I am trying to unravel the mysteries of blues mandolin. Finally, I also play baglamas, a tiny greek instrument used in rembetiko, often called the "greek blues".
I like to listen to a broad scope of music. My main interests is pre WWII music such as jass, country blues, hawaiian, country, rembetiko, and several other popular and ethnic styles of those days.
best!

Great to have you here! Much of "pop" music is like fastfood. Roots type music takes more listening and appreciation. Communication with another, rather than consumption of a product. |

Aloha Roel!
Your musical talents encompass a wide variety of genres. I'm really impressed that you like rembetiko (I do too, since my husband is Greek!). "E como mai" (welcome) to the Taropatch Ohana (family) from the Netherlands!

Aloha Roel
Welcome. One of our employees is from the Netherlands. He has been cross-pollinating our family culturally for awhile (our girls had their first visit from Sinter Klaas and Black Pete this last December. And Koen gets to hear slack key almost constantly around the office, compliments of yours truly. Not sure he completely understands my obsession, but doesn't complain too much...
