Anyone in San Diego County want to host a real kanikapila vice "Open Mike". My house could fit about four or five of us and I have a small backyard with a fire pit if it gets cold, plus I live in North County.

We're in North County too -- Carlsbad, convenient to the 5. Got room for plenty people but would like to open it up to other musicians as well (folky types and more modern / celtic fingerstyle players) and, of course, invite a few homebrewers too so we know the beer will be good.
Throw a coupla dates out so I can run 'em by Vicki. We're trying to plan a 4 or 5 day trip up to Death Valley to see the spring flowers but haven't got anything confirmed yet.

Sounds good to me. I'll bring "real" tea. Also something to eat - just so Rik doesn't go hungry (as if!). My stitches are out, and I've fallen back to a rank beginner. Anyone want plumeria cutting? This is the best time of year to share. Mahalo nui, Bill!! n |

I'm out of action on the 25th. I'm going canoeing on the Col River. Maybe next time - I feel bad since this is supposed to be my idea. |

Pua Kai, I would like a cutting if still available. I also need an address for "The Event".

Aloha e Ralph - e-mail Bill directly for directions. (click on his name, then you get his profile where you click on e-mail to him) The strongest plant I have is called a dwarf pink. The blooms start in May, and I actually had one last month. the flowers are almost white with a tiny yellow center, very fragrant, very nice leis. Pink comes because the underside is pinkish. I also have the celadine, or common Hawai'ian. The blossoms are larger, yellow and white, nice fragrance, start blooming in June. And then I have a cerise - smaller flowers, more pointy petals, not as fragrant, but definitely pink - nice to use with the dwarf pink for contrast in leis. I also have a white shell that propagates well. The blossoms do not open, but are very fragrant. It's called shell because when strung in leis it looks like a shell lei. I think they look way better with other leis too. But the frangrance is nice and lingering in the garden. I think those are all for cuttings, though I have some coming along with burgundy-colored flowers, and last year brought back a very nice solid pink, bigger with rounded petals; solid yellow both from Waihe'e; a mixed yellow and pink that looks orange from Kula, and more of the burgundy, these from up-country as well. I'll be sure I'm there on time so that you can take them home with you. And I guess I'd better buy another stand and mark it well!! See you all then. aloha!! n |

Keith Sighting!!!! I actually saw Mr. Marzullo last night at the Wed/Kanikapizza. He played nahenahe ki ho'alu on his Goodall at the pizza break then we jammed on a few songs (really nice Hi'ilawe) before Frank brought the group back on task. I told him about the Kanikapila at Bill's. He said he thought the weekend was open. Told him to check here for details. |
