Dusty, Any chance of you bringing the Kona Walking Stick Bass to the Open Mike? Is Sheila coming with her ukulele?
Rik, Do you have that part of Akaka Falls down pat enough for a duet? If so, I'll bring the nylon string. If not, I'll bring the steel string.
Anyone want to try and kanikapila to "Hi'ilawe". I have a KGS in the Key of C and G. Would need folks to back me up singing it. |

Hey Mika'ele!
I noticed you had a KGS for Hi'ilaw e. Our kanikapila is coming up this Friday. We may want to field test it, so would you mind sharing it if possible (both in C and G)? I will give you feedback on that plus the one you sent me already for Wai O Ke Anini. Do you still have my email address? If not, let me know and I will send it to you or you can email me through TP.
Wish I could come to your Open Mic's down there! Have fun! |

My plan is: Leonard Kwan's version of "Ki Ho'alu" but in G Mauna Loa (DGDDGD) A peppy version of "Sweet Lelehua" in C Major Tuning (CGEGCE) "Hi'ilawe" in C Wahine (Drop C) (CGDGBE) but would like a kanikapila with the KGS (time permitting) either "He Punahele No Oe" or "Punahele"
Rik, I have my stell string in the car and no ukulele.

Aloha e Mike! I'm working (and working and working - and month-break for hand) on Hi`ilawe in drop C... When I really can play and sing it, I'll let you know. Are you going over to Don's? What's a KGS? is it a soundbyte? Mahalo, n |

Hi folks,
I really enjoyed the L&L SCSKS open mic on Wednesday night. It was great to see faces and people I've only known from the "Taropatch". It was a pleasure hearing some great Slack Key music and even having Bill Benzel for my "Opening Act". I brought the level back down to "reality" with my set. Could have done better, could have done worse. It's all up-hill from here. At my stage of the game, the first time anywhere is always the toughest. I know it gets easier with repeat performances.
I also found out it's a "Small World", since my brother knew/recognized people from the past concerts/luaus/hui gatherings. I guess he's known Rik for some time.
Once again, thanks for all the encouragement, hints, and ideas I gathered from the evening. I'll be back.

Ralph, It was a pleasure to have you there and meet you. It is obvious you have an experienced guitarists touch. I am not the only one who enjoyed your playing. We are all getting better each time. Bill normally plays last to remind us how far we can come. Terry expressed an interest in getting to gether more than once a month and having Bill (or others) give us some pointers on the complex chord constructions he uses in his orginal music. Ed said he would like to learn more about the music theory and "why" behind some of the tablature he is memorizing and be able to figure out how to play songs he likes and hears. Maybe one of us should stand up and just pick a date and place. |

Hi all, yup. 02.08.06 L&L was another wonderful session. I came in a little late but enjoyed listening to all. Welcome for our first time visit from Ralph, really enjoyed your music & style. Plenty were on hand once again. Ralph of course, and his bro, Terry (c-monk) & Mary, Bill, Brudda Ken, Ed, Dusty & Sheila, Bill's jazz guitar playing friend, (his name escapes me), Mika ele, me, hope I got everyone. I agree, if we can get together twice-a-month, that would be awesome. Having part of that session exchanging knowledge such as theory or various chord arrangements would be cool too. With all the experienced people like Bill, Mika ele, Keith, etc... have, it would be a big plus to the lesser seasoned players...Let's do it!! My home is also, always open to you all for a meeting place if you like. ~slkho |
