Well I got my first chance to listen to KAPU this last weekend as we were down in Monterey for a couple of days. I can say that I like the selection of music very much. However there was no back (or forward) announcement of any of the material during any of my extended listening sessions on either Saturday or Sunday. This is dissapointing because a new listener will have no idea who is performing. During those times I did hear the very same Keoki Kahumoku station ID about 4 times but no other announcements.

Aloha no Lawrence, Tanks for da positive comments Brah! No, really, glad you tuned in. We are a NON-PROFIT all volunteer group. We've been on the air for a total of 17 months now (started September 2005). Anyways, excuses, excuses Hu!? We get better and better all the time. We have only 6 volunteer DJ's on board now, so dats da reason for no 'in depth' mele identification. However, kala mai for so many Keoki announcements, we really do try to mix 'em mo bettah. Mahalos for your input. Keep it tuned to KAPU-lp 104.7 FM. See you at the fund raiser on July 15, 2006. Get you tickets ahead of time, probably no at the gate sales. Aloha from, All the Volunteers at the station |

I see... Shoestring Operation at the moment! (Or should I say... One Slippa Operation? )
So when I was listening there maybe was no human being on the controls. So you were playing from a pre-prepared tape or a CD changer perhaps? Maybe you can work out a way to put a continuous play list log (or an artist list log) on your website so folks can look up who just played (or who played in the last hour, etc...).
Good luck with the Fund Raiser - looks like you have some VERY GOOD talent showing up!!

Sounds like a blast.. does San Jose receive signal? I'd love to tune in and hear something new... always looking for new Hawaiian music. I know about non-profits, I work for PBS here in San Jose so I can relate.. keep up the great work. Aloha. |

Here on Kaua`i Community Radio (KKCR), we run an overnight "cart" of Hawaiian music when there is no DJ in the studio. Better music without identification, than no music at all.
Weekdays 7-11a.m. (HST) is the Hawaiian music with a live DJ. There are now 5 of us who share the workload -- with each of us doing our own programming, engineering, and production. And doing back-announcing of all songs played. You'll hear many styles of island and Hawaiian music, from "vintage" (1920s-1940s) to hula to island contemporary to hapa-haole. Little or no reggae, however. You can hear us on Kaua`i radio (90.9FM, 91.9FM, 92.7FM -- to get around the mountains, and on O`ahu 102.7FM). We broadcast online too -- http://www.kkcr.org/live/live.html
I've been trying to keep up with posting my playlists online, but am lagging behind a wee bit (sorry!): http://lolouila.com/forum/ (click "Aloha Kaua`i") |

There are several radio stations that stream; KKCR (Kauai), KPOA (Maui), KINE (Oahu) and of course there's Aloha Joe. Check out this website for a list of stations broken down by each of the Hawaiian islands: http://www.hawaiiradiotv.com/

So, Jeff why did you wait until _after_ moved from Aptos, to start your wonderful station????
To be the _only_ all-Hawaiian radio station on the mainland, is a milestone that hasn't received the applause it deserves -- especially from the media and the music industry here in Hawai`i, IMHO. Here's wishing you plenny funding to boost that power! |
