Here's an article describing the reaction to a recently published book on the history of Moloka'i, and Kalaupapa in particular.

I read last year's book, a historical novel, "Moloka'i" by Alan Brennert. I was vey moved reading it. It was very sensitive to the Hansen's Disease residents of Kalaupapa. It was also sensitive to the Hawaiian cultural aspects of 'ohana and what effect banishment had to family members. I don't remember hearing any negative comments about this book.

Those of you that have not read "Moloka'i" should.

E nana, e ho'olohe. E pa'a ka waha, e hana ka lima.
