There was a beautiful kanikau honoring Dwayne Nakila Steele in the Star-Bull Kauakukalahale column today. http://starbulletin.com/2006/04/30/news/kauakukalahale.html

Nakila Steele was founder of Grace Pacific Corp, and learned slack key from Johnny Almeida, as well as later in life learning enough Hawaiian to be considered fluent in the language.

There are also several articles about him and the wonderful things he did for Hawaiian culture during his life, only one of which was to help the 'Aha Punana Leo schools get started.

I believe the company he founded, Grace Pacific, is the company that Don Kaulia works with now on the Big Island.

He will be missed by many, by those who knew him and indeed by those who never met him but have felt the far-reaching effects of his actions and generosity.

aloha no,
