WELL! I don't have a stand, but i do have a new guitar that neeeds a gig bag. It is the same length as the backpacker and your travel guitar, but the body is 12 inches wide and 2 1/2 inches deep. It is essentially a little version of the Weissonetti with a huge cutaway for fingerstyle playing.
By whompin' up i assume you mean manufacturing (we vets all learn nthe same language at school). Do you think you could make some kind of padded gig bag, or are the stand cases just a thin protective case?
My surgery is scheduled May 30, by the way, at Evergreen Hosp in Kirkland, right near you, I think. Perhaps we can get together and jam a bit during my 10 day recovery there |

I'm not going to be much help--I use those Greven fold-flat jobs that fit into the outside pocket of my ProTec cases.

Our stand cases are fairly thin: 2 layers of fabric with cotton batting 'twixt'em. We might be able to come up wid summat fiercer, howsomever. Bring the beastie with you if you can---if not, bring tracings.

My choice of guitar stands is the Hamilton. All metal construction, and long (adjustable from Mandolin to Bass Guitar). It measures 26" long by about 11" in diameter at the top. It's large, but I feel it's the sturdiest stand I have, and my choice when out in the real world around people that are not instrument savvy. I have several others much smaller, but I once watched someone knock over a guitar in a low A-frame stand and observed the guitar split in two along the grain of the sides. Now I only use those stands at home.

I'm in to traveling light as possible, and packable (is that a word?) the little Fender acoustic/electric stands. Very durable, and stand about 13 inches tall. Folding tri-legged thingee's. ~slkho |

Jean, ARE YOU INCINERATING THAT WE ACTUALLY READ MUSIC????? Besides, who needs a music stand when there is a knee on each leg, a coffee table nearby, a stuffed walrus in the den, bubble gum to stick to the wall, not to mention thumbtacks and sheet rock screws
There is a new ukulele users group in our little town. At the second meeting a lady showed up with her uke, named Wilson. (the uke, not the lady). Quite logical, actually; she had gotten the uke without a case, and found that it fit perfectly in her sons empty tennis racket case. Yu can guess what brand racket he had!
I will bring the new creation with me. I am just putting on the finish now. I will try to post some pictures, probably under Concept Guitar in teh Da Kine Music Gear section. I may go out and look for a really big tennis racket case in the meantime. And, yes, I plan to be mobile. Susan will be with me for moral and physical support (no, she is not big enough to carry me, but she can at least point me toward my crutches in case i forget where i left them) |

Be sure to come a few days early and blot up Folklife Festival, and stay long enough for my kanikapila/kanikapotluck on the 10th...though I'm sure some other therapeutic string-twiddling can be arranged betwixt-times :-) |
