I got my first guitar on my 10th birthday when my dad started teaching me to play Slack Key. As I improved I would sit with him and my uncles, learning more and more songs. When I got older, I transitioned to the bass guitar and my younger brother continued on guitar. He has become quite accomplished at playing Slack Key tunings, standard tunings and the ukulele. When I went back to playing the guitar, I concentrated mostly on standard tuning. After reading many of the postings on Taropatch.net, I have been inspired and motivated to de-tune my guitar and get back to my roots. I have played Hawaiian music almost all of my life (over 35 years). I have really enjoyed all the stories told by people from all over the world about their Slack Key experiences. Thank you for reminding me of where I started, and please keep the stories coming. Mahalo Nui Loa from San Diego!

Clint, I have heard you guys play -- awesome! It looks like your Dad is getting better every time I see him (at Wednesday Night Kanikapizza). I'll send you an email about the weekly San Diego Open Mike for Slack Key. Say Hi to Greg and Uncle Clinton for me. Malama Pono, Kapena Mike |
