I know the feeling, poikids. My sweetie is from Kane`ohe on O`ahu, and in the past 11 years, Island culture has drawn me into becoming a hula dancer, `ukulele & bass player/singer of Hawaiian music, Hawaiian radio show host, and CD reviewer for a monthly Hawaiian-community paper. It moves, nahenahe-style, so subtly under the skin and into the blood - and you are linked to the music for the rest of your life. |

poikids:
My knowledge of southern California geography is sketchy, but if you're near Whittier, they've announced their new "Aloha Series" of annual concerts, featuring musicians who travel up from Hawai`i. There will be some great stuff this season!
Owana Salazar, Herb Ohta Jr. & Keoki Kahumoku, Genoa Keawe, Makaha Sons, Hapa, Led Kaapana, Brothers Cazimero...and these concerts are always sell-outs. For details and & ticket info: http://www.shannoncenter.org/

Auntie Maria =================== My "Aloha Kaua`i" radio show streams FREE online every Thu & Fri 7-9am (HST) www.kkcr.org - Kaua`i Community Radio "Like" Aloha Kauai on Facebook, for playlists and news/info about island music and musicians!
