Here are some hand-held shaky videos I captured with my digital camera at the Aloha International Steel Guitar convention this past weekend. See the ukes? I told you there were ukes there.
Here’s a sampler of three generations of Hawaiian steel guitarists.
Mike Scott (from Toronto, Ontario) just celebrated his 80th birthday last month (you should be doing so well at 80!). Mike’s style is very influenced by the music heard in 1930’s Hollywood Polynesian movies. Here he plays the classic ‘Moonlight In Waikiki’.
Bobby Ingano is a baby-boomer who plays in a traditional Waikiki electric steel style. Listen to his perfect harmonics at the 2:00 minute mark! Bobby is a much in-demand recording artist in Hawaii (he's recorded with Petty Bookah) and frequently tours Japan. Bobby plays ‘Blue Hawaiian Moonlight’
Paul Kim is a 30-something steeler playing in a more modern Waikiki style, greatly influenced by slack-key guitarists. Paul is another master of harmonics. Paul is playing a medley of hulas.
Both Bobby and Paul play frequently in the hotels on Waikiki Beach. Check them out the next time you are there.
If you like this type of music, join us at the upcoming Hawaiian Steel Guitar Association’s yearly convention in Joliet, Illinois. October 12-14, 2006. Uke players are welcome and needed! More info at www.hsga.org

The video links were not working for a few days because we are in the process of building a set of HSGA video pages.
They should work now. Enjoy.

I have just discovered these postings. It is swell fun to see these guys playing. I love the way Bobby plays and the way Paulie plays. You can hear Feet Rogers in both of them. First time I ever saw Paulie without a hat on. I do not know the other gentleman, but perhaps he was at the HSGA convention on O`ahu this past May.
Great sounds! Thanks for posting them here and giving us the opportunity to listen.
