Hi Friends,

My name is Ray Frank and I'll be traveling to Kawaii in November. I've been playing slack key for several years and would like to meet and share music with folks while I'm there. If you have some experience with musicians on Kawaii, can you help me?

Thanks,
Ray

Ray,
I assume you mean Kauai? Stop at Bounty Music in Kapaa and talk with Greg. Contact Auntie Maria at this forum. Ken Emerson may still be playing at Princeville, Doug & SandY McMaster play every Sunday in Hanalei. Hal Kinnamon, Paul Togaiko and several other gr4at players live there.
Have fun

Karl

Re: Auntie Maria

Check the concert calendar at www.mele.com

If you go to the links pages of Taropatch, look up Cindy Combs. I think she performs in Hanapepe.

check out Dennis Chun in the lounge at the Hukilau Lanai in Waipouli, in the Kauai Coast Resort behind the Coconut marketplace. Every Friday night 6:30 - 9:30. Real Hawaiian stuffs - he teaches Hawaiian studies and language at the Kauai community college.

Also, of course, Leilani Bond at the Hyatt in Po`ipu. For sure Tues and Sat night. Also other nights, call the consierge desk for which nights. 6 - 8 in the Seaview Terrace Lounge. Very cool venue

A few more suggestions:

Ken Emmerson, Pancho Graham and Kirby Keough are in the Princeville Hotel Living Room on Sunday night. Get there early and see the sunset hula show.

Also on Sunday in Hanalei, at Tahiti Nui, is Keli`i Kaneali`i (formerly with HAPA).

Ken Emmerson and Pancho Graham are in the La Cascata restaurant in the Princeville Hotel - Mon & Tues.

Kirby Keough at Joe's on the green in Po`ipu - Wed & Thurs. You need reservations (808)742-9696. The food is good.

Pancho does a solo at the Lighthouse Bistro in Kilauea on Wed night.

Leilani Bond plays at the Seaview Terrace in the Hyatt in Po`ipu several nights during the week. She has a Keiki Hula show there on Tues. chunky monkey already mentioned her.

Cindy Combs plays at the Hanapepe Cafe on Fridays. Call for reservations (808)335-5011. Cafe opens at 6 and Cindy starts then. Be sure to ask to sit close to Cindy.

Enjoy Kaua`i!

Dusty

Joe's doesn't do wed/thurs dinners anymore; heard Kirby tell someone he does a gig at the Marriot, but I don't know what night

Ray,

If you would like to attend the free Open Mic in the Grinds restaurant in the Eleele shopping center Saturdays at 7:30, you'll find the west side's event still going in it's fourth year. Open Mic can be your opportunity to plug-in and play and sing or just listen, visit and enjoy. Bring your own guitar, or play Blu's for your turn. Good fun!

The Kauai slack key festival is scheduled for November 19 at the Hilton Kauai Beach Resort from noon to 6:00 PM. This is a wonderful free event.
