Just wanted to let people know that if you're in the Houston, Texas area this weekend the Aloha Fest is happening October 7 & 8. Our group the Houston Slackers will be playing on Saturday at 12:30pm. It is being held at Landolt Pavilion in Clear Lake Park (5001 NASA Rd 1 in Seabrook). The Aloha Fest website is:
Oh - sorry I checked Taropatch too late! I was at the Aloha Fest - but didn't get there until around 1:30. Came in with Edwin Maunakea, played backup ukulele with him. I would have LOVED to have met and heard the Houston Slackers. I don't know of any true slack key players within driving distance.
I think I was leaving as you guys tarted playing. Where are you located in Texas? Near Houston?

Yes, we're trying to keep Aloha alive and well in Texas. Actually there are a few other groups down here. The clip on our MySpace page (www.myspace.com/houstonslackers) was written and played by one of the guys in our group. He's a very good slack key player.
