Howzit everyone,
I am buying this sign:
but I am wracking my brain as to what wording I want to put in the area that says, "Your Wording Here".
The maker can fit quite a few letters in there (or fewer Really Big letters) and at first I told him to go with, "Charlie's Ukuleles", but my wife thinks that seems too much like a store sign or uke luthier's advertisement (it will hang on a den wall among, above or alongside the ten or so ukuleles we now have on that wall) and I was wondering what others ideas anyone might have.
"Ukulele Paradise" and "Ukulele Heaven" were some other lettering ideas considered, but surely there must be even better ones, or even something more personalized, like "Charlie's...".
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Some suggestions:
E Kanikapila Kakou! (Let's jam) Welcome to the Taro Patch E komo mai! (welcome) Ka mele ho'ohau'oli (the cheerful music, literally, the music that makes you happy)

Thank for all the ideas Jesse - didn't even think about using Hawaiian phrases, yet I LIVE here!
Hey Fran, so you mean just the one big word, "Vamp", right down along the sign's "fretboard"? I would like it to be represnted a bit more expressively though, such as, uh - did you have any punctuation ideas? Mebbe all caps...in an italicized font (they have many different fonts to choose from too, so I see another gut wrenching decision coming up after I even settle on a word/phrase) with an exclamation at the end! |

A few other ideas:
Ke kani hone a ka 'ukulele (the sweet sound of the 'ukulele) E Ho'okani! (Play!) E Nanea! (Enjoy!) Go for it! Charlie's Collection (or, Charlie's Ukulele Collection) (less like a store)

What a neat sign!! Maybe you should increase the business by posting contact info - ask Andy if that's OK... |

I think it would look more tasteful if you did not have any words on it. I.M.H.O. People will get a good feeling just from it's colorful presentation.

Thanks Sarah, yeah the word "collection" does make it definitely UN-store like!
Pua Kai: yes they have it on e-bay right now, but I found out they are down the street from my employer so I just drove over. They are called "Island Comforts" right here in Wahiawa, Hawaii.
Lawrence - interesting thought about leaving it word-less.
Admin - thanks...or how about, "Uke Sanctuary, No Stress(ing)"...
Mika ele, sorry no Zepp fan here, though I have heard of Jus' Press!
Fran - gotcha. Good idea nonetheless...VAMP! |

I don't know that thinking Led is Led Zep, is too far from the mark, he certainly could do everything they do :-) And lots more, too.
But it is certainly amusing.

I think I have it pretty much dialed in - it'll be "Got Ukulele?" on the first line (they think they can do two lines in a large enough font to still make it out from across the room) and then my first name - or our family's last name (ala' "The Smiths", for example) - on the second line.
And the sign could double as an outside greeting, at the property gate or over the front door or whatever.
If no 2nd line then just the first one with "Got Ukulele?" in a bigger point size.
Cool?
And Thanks again to all for the stellar ideas! |
