This is an interesting test to check for overall pitch perception ability. Try it out.

I got 80.6% - bet I could have done better with headphones.

I was not paying extremely close attention and got a 77.8.
I often tell folks in Kanikapila situations that I am likely to play 1 out of 5 notes wrong. Looks like my estimate was close to the truth!

I got about the same as Lawrence, but it made me wonder if someone selected the right hand button every time, the score might have been higher, if not perfect. Some of the differences I heard were bass lines or harmony lines, making the differences very subtle. Jesse Tinsley |

Well, I just took it again but pressed the right (red - different) button every time. Score was 50%, exactly as expected for a properly structured set of tests.

I tied Andy at 80.6 while trying to listen very hard (but also dealing with and being distracted by a persnickety printer...). I also think I might have done better with headphones. Might have a new hobby.

Scored an 83, but I'm a terrible musician.
Conclusion - Better off listening too and supporting other musicians than trying to play. |

808bk, Most of us are terrible musicians, but we play anyway. It's called "folk music"! Jesse Tinsley |

Ok, I got an 86.1. And I got bored about 1/2 way through and lost concentration for a while. But, I noticed a thing or 2 about which were easier to distinguish. I think I mostly booted those that were percussive and found it easier to remember those that were more like musical instruments I was familiar with and were "melodic", or those that might have had many "voices" but were orchestral. Those that had lots of electronic "spatter" were hard for me and those that had more fundamentals were easier. The dissonant ones were hard, too. I also found it troublesome that the next sequence started as soon as a button was clicked. I think I could have done better if I had a notion of when a sequence was about to start or I could have had a moment to readjust.
Anyway, I don't really know what it proves.

Is it still considered folk music if even you "folks" don't want to hear it? |

Folk music is made by folks; it's communication, not product made by machines and lawyers. |

same as Reid it proves you got 86.1 on that test, that's about it i still can't string more than ten error-free notes together |

My wife took the test. She listens to lots of music. She cannot tell me, jhowever, if one note is lower or higher than the last one she heard. She can sing along well with others but alone cannot carry a tune for more than a fews notes before wandering off key. She got a 77.8 This test obviously shows listening skills. NOthing to do with ones ability as a musician. well, except that you can tell when you made a mistake more easily :) |

That would explane a lot! I used to play with that drummer....
But actually, listening is what it is all about. The highest praise a professional musician pays another is, "he/she listens." As in, pays attention to what else is going on and lays something that makes musical sense. If ypu can't hear the intervals, chords or rhythms; how the heck will you know what to play?
Haven't heard this particiular "test," but I can stress working on listening skills enough. Tons of great software out there to help, too.
cheers,
Mark

I got 100%. I didn't actually take the test of course, I just know I'm that full of myself.
Cheers,
