Happy New Year to all... Jus wondering if anyone knows the correct lyrics to a few lines in the song "Waimanalo Blues ". I have heard it sung many ways and mumbled over by different artists . This is one of the lines , "Some they will cry , because they have pride for .....{for someone who's loved here and die},{for someone who's love here has died } ???? the other line is , birds on the wing forgetting awhile ? birds on the wind will get there in awhile ? Mahalo for your help.....K

And I'll add another one to that....Bird's, either - "all along" or "on the lawn" - sunlight at dawn...And as for the birds on the wing part - "forgetting they're wild" is another one. As well as, starting where the mountains left me -"I left where I began" or "I'm up where I began".
I just picked out the ones that either sounded right or made the most sense.
I use, "forgetting they're wild" - "Birds all along" (although lately I've been thinking that "birds on the lawn" makes more sense) and "someone who's loved here died". Bill Keale does that last one as "someone who's love here died".
Most of what I found on lyrics web-sites attributes a version to Arlo Guthrie. Did he do this song too? |
What? You mean high "E" is the TOP string. No way dude! That changes everything! |

I use birds on the lawn ,the sunlight at dawn..... seems to make more sense....I also use starting where the mountains left me , I end up where I began...I have listened to different recordings of the songs , and these lines are usually difficult to interpret....just like Louie-Louie.....everyone makes up their own lyrics |

I have the sheet music for the Country Comfort recording, it shows lyrics as....
Winds gon-na blow so im gon-na go down on the road a-gain Start-ing where the moun-tains left me I end up where I be-gan Where i will go the wind on-ly knows good times a-round the bend Get in my car Im go-ing too far Im nev-er com-ing back a-gain Ti-red and worn I woke up this morn' and found that i was con-fused Spun right a-round and found i had lost the things that i coul-dnt lose The bea-ches they sell to build their ho-tels my fa-thers and i once knew The birds all a-long the sunlight at dawn sing-ing Wai-ma-na-lo blues
Down on the road with moun-tains so old far on the coun-try side The birds on the winds for-get in a-while so im head-ed for the wind-ward side In all of your dreams some-times it just seems that im just a-long for the ride Some they will cry be-cause they have pride but some-one who's loved here died
The bea-ches they sell to build their ho-tels my fa-thers and i once knew The birds all a-long the sun-light at dawn sing-ing Wai-ma-na-lo blues
