EEEeeeeeeeyyooowwwwwwww!!!!!
Even though I've taken lessons from Patrick Landeza and been to several of his band gigs, this is the first time I've seen him take over a stage for a solo performance. I was really impressed. He had a full house in the palm of his hand, just pouring warmth and aloha off the stage. He had his sister up for a hula, then his mom joined him to sing "Kaula Ili" then she danced a hula. He played his big koa Tacoma and his little bitty koa Tacoma papoose, he sang so sweet, told great stories, just generally brought down the house.
Cyril Pahinui followed and he ripped. Started off with "Hula O Makee" and kept going and going. His guitar work on "Hi`ilawe" was amazing. It was tremendous fun to see such different approaches to guitar, vocals, and stage presence, and see that both worked wonderfully.
They got together for a few songs after Cyril's set and when it couldn't get any better they did a killer "Ulili E" that took it over the top.
Go see these guys.
