Thought I'd jump in here and let you all know that there's every reason in the world to continue listening to Keali`i's music - and not be sad! He calls me almost every day (I do soooo look forward to those calls!), and he's making some pretty dramatic improvements of late. He's learning chords on the guitar, and Friday he told me he's learned 3 of his songs! (The latter may be the singing part, not all the chords, but still, that's soooo much better than just a week or so ago!) I literally hear improvement every day - in his speech, in his mood and morale, in everything.
Thanks to the very generous donations made by so many of you, he's been able to resume and continue his various therapies, and the difference is just amazing! Plus in addition to the therapy, his wife Korrie has been working with him to help him regain reading and math and some of the other skills that were affected by the stroke. He still has trouble remembering things from before the stroke (esp. people), but I'm sure that will come back with time and therapy.
So don't despair! I, too, got sad at first when playing his CDs, wondering if he'd ever record or perform again and thinking what a huge loss that would be if he didn't - but over the past two weeks with all the improvement I've heard over the phone? It's completely erased the sadness and filled me with hope. I told Keali`i yesterday that when my friend Michael Keene (KVMR radio - he does a kanikaplia show every Sunday from 9 am till noon PST - listen live at www.kvmr.org ) played "He Mele Ho`oipoipo" toward the end of his show yesterday morning, I instantly recognized it from the first opening chords and squealed out loud to hear it being played on the radio! Rather than making me sad, it made me soooo happy to hear it! (And it made Keali`i happy to hear it had been played.)
Anyways, hope that helps! (And Bob, my deepest sympathies on the loss of your beloved brother.) |

Aloha e Lynn! I will call you later. I'm glad Keali'i's doing well. I'm going to make an effort to call him once every week if I have the chance because I think he'd love it.

Aloha e Lynn, Mahalo for writing and I am so glad to hear that Keali'i is getting well. I am in Kaleponi (California) now and I am going to make an effort to call Keali'i once a week. A hui hou.
