Mahalo nui loa to Steve Espaniola.... Oh, it rhymed.... sorry..... Anyway, thanks so much for coming down south and sharing your music with us. Steve released his first CD last year and it's so worth buying!!! And if his baby will come early or hold off (I'm not sure which) he may be able to go to Hawai'i next month and collect his award for it. Now, about those rhymes.... Steve is looking for someone to write some words to his slack key song about rice..... hmmm - - where is Kiwini when you need him? n

A`ole. Laiki is about as far as I can go. For 55 years I've been speaking English...(and still don't do well at that) -- only since about 2004 have I been studying Hawaiian culture...1 year since Pueakea Nogelmeier inspired me to learn the `olelo.
But I love poetry...especially Keola Beamer's Spam haikus on his web site. Oh, and I love his letters about his mongoose, Cedrick. |

Aloha mai kaua e Nancy! The SoCal shows were an incredible success and I owe a lot to the halaus, `ukulele, and slack key groups who helped with the grass roots, word of mouth promotion! I was welcomed to each city with so much aloha! Gypsy Den was such a treat as I was able to perform with my good friend Bobo Kalae Miles and `ukulele legend Bill Tapia! Also accompanied by beautiful dances from Leilani and her haumana. Twiggs was another great intimate venue where I was accompanied by hula from the haumana of Kumu Anne's halau. Big mahalo to everyone who came out to support and a huge mahalo to Piko and his wife for their hospitality! Hope to do it all again soon! A hui hou kakou...btw, I was actually kidding about the rice poems, but I think you may be on to something! It's the makings of a great contest idea!
