           	| I was watching the following DVD by Robert Mugge HAWAIIAN RAINBOW (1987) an 85-minute film on Hawaiian music featuring Auntie Genoa Keawe, Raymond & Elodia Kane, Sam Bernard Trio, Vicky Holt Takamine & Pua Ali'i 'Ilima, Makaha Sons of Ni'ihau, Andy Cummings, Ho'opi'i Brothers, Jerry Santos & Haunani Apoliona, Violet Pahu Liliko'i, Billy Hew Lin, Michael Kahikina, and Puanani Burgess.

I must tell you that I am greatly taken by Michael Kahikina's plaintively sung mele. When I did a google search on him, I find no music available, but plenty of hits about being a state representative. Is that the same Michael Kahikina in this film?

Here are the lyrics to that song. These words are so appropriate after some of the posts lately about Hawaiian vs. haole point of view. Please read the lyrics and take them to heart. If you can find the film, I urge you to view it. I got mine from amazon.com, but I don't think it is in distribution any longer. It really goes into the history of Hawaiian music from ancient times up to now. Great music on it as well.

 Here are lyrics:

 Michael Kahikina

 From film: Hawaiian Rainbow

 Who came first to Hawai`i
 All of da kanaka
 Who came first to Hawai`i
 Now all of us kanaka
 And how come us kanaka
 We no own da `aina
 How come us kanaka
We only like fight one another
 Don’t want to give back
 Don’t want to share
 Don’t even try to understand
 How can you fight back
 While they desecrating the land
 How can you fight back
 While they desecrating the ocean
 How can we fight back
We’ve got to read, research, vote and work the land
 How can they desecrate
And tell us they still love this land
 Auwe auwe
