Contest Info Prizes: 1st Place- $1,200; 2nd Place - $800; 3rd Place - $600; 4th Place - $400; 5th Place - $300; and 6th Place - $200. Recording Contract with Hula Records
Groups of two and not more than five members. (Any age)
Two songs to be performed. Selection of winners will be based on pitch, projection, harmony, adherence to the composer’s arrangement (tempo, etc), pronunciation and enunciation, expression, appearance, manner and charm. Maximum of eight minutes total performance time.
Instrumentation: Only Hawaiian Musical instruments-no electrical amplification with the exception of the steel guitar. ½ of the singers must play instruments.
Songs must be in the Hawaiian Language and contestants are urged to select songs composed prior to World War II or songs composed in the nahenahe style of that era. Contestants may sing in only one group.
A DVD of the evening’s program will be given to each participating group.

This competition is a nice idea, but it is just plain wrong to make an exception for the steel guitar! The steel player should play a real Hawaiian acoustic steel and not be allowed to get away with an electric lap steel or pedal steel as in this case. You might as well plug every one at this point.
