Hi, a few years ago I was working on Johnston Island, one of my co-workers had a tape from 3 scoops, one of the songs had to do with 3 brothers who were hungry and stopped at a diner to eat. As the song progresses they order all kinds of local food, in Hawaiian, Somoan or Fijian and English. In the course of many moves since then I have lost the tape, and that song. Does any one know the name of the song and the album and if and where I can even buy another one.

That's from their 1985 vinyl album entitled Kinohi Loa -- the song is their own VERY funny version of the classic "He Ono": http://www.huapala.org/He/He_Ono.html
They even hassle the waitress, in their version! |

This one and the original just might be taken at face value. The Hawaiian's love of food. Three Scoops version was like a more modern version in pidgin. |

Auntie Maria, Mahalo, Mahalo, Mahalo, I've been looking for that for years now. I have a friend from Waimanalo who is working in Iraq right now, he and I have been trying to figure that out for some time. He will be back in Honolulu the end of July then my wife and I are coming to Kona for the Lilio' so between he and I we should be able to find a copy of it. Again Mahalo from Idaho!

Hey, Shawn, do you know who were the artists in this group? I ask because by coincidence I just got tickets to this local performance here in Northern Cal.:
"3 Scoops of Aloha Concert" featuring Faith Ako, Mele 'Ohana and Halau Na Pua O Ka La'akea Friday, Jun 01, 2007 8:00 PM PDT Mystic Theatre, 23 Petaluma Blvd, Petaluma, CA, 94952
I'm sure Faith Ako wasn't singing in 1985, but just wonderin' if there's a relation? |

The 3 scoops today seem to be a different gruop. The group that recorded He Ono was led by Abe (pronounced ahbay) Keala from Keaukaha. I think he was living in Wai'anae O'ahu at the time. I can't recall the other two people in the group. |

I believe the original "3 Scoops of Aloha" consisted of Abraham "Abe" Keala, Mel Amina and Analu Aina. Both Mel and Analu went on to play with Bruddah Iz and subsequently backed Uncle Moe Keale, after his nephew, Iz, passed away... |

The 1985 3 Scoops were Mel Amina, Abe Keala and Jimmy Burgess.
The 1994 "Greatest Hits" CD by the group lists members as Mel Amina, Brad Lindsey, Brian Callahan, Ben Mejia, Brian Bascar & Roy Hamada -- with additional vocals by Lamond Kanaka`ole, Mike Goodman, Melvina Amina Ahwong, Joy Amina Kalo and Gail Amina Johnson.
Analu Aina joined up with Mel, Gaylord Holomalia and Mike Muldoon as a revised 3 Scoops, when they played behind Israel Kamakawiwo`ole.
Then Mel and Analu played with Uncle Moe Keale for awhile...and now you can find Mel and the new 3 Scoops playing Waikiki hotspots; Analu can be found most Sunday afternoons at Honey's (Ko`olau Golf Course), jammin' with Mike Ka`awa, Paul Kim, Ocean Kaowili & Eddie Kamae. |
