Boy, did they bring Folklife Festival to a rousing close yesterday. The usual supects (Thumbs, Slip'ry and their buddies) were joined by a whole uddah bunch o' guyz (Noeau, Hilinai, Retro) for a great back-porch lu`au-type performance. Retro, he dance one mean `Ulupalakua We all sang along, and at the end grabbed the hands of unsuspecting strangers for "Hawai`i Aloha" (I actually got thanked for dat). One mighty fine time!!! Mahalo, guyz!

And some of da Guyz had met only hours before the gig on Monday. Dat sweet leo ki`e ki`e belongs to Gary Medeiros, from whom I hope we will be hearing more. My only regret was I couldn't hear and see Thumbstruck better since he was sitting in the back.

Sitting in da back fo' protection! I was so blown away by the vocals I forgot to play the end to "Lei Nani"! Neeej, thanks for your workshop and your input in mine! Momi- I stay looking fo' one fridge box fo' you to sing inside on stage. Gary, Al and Hilinai made the gig! Jack and I consider ourselves sidemen. Gregg actually volunteered to dance, no mo' preshah. Was too good! When Gregg danced, Mike Bristow took over on bass. Seamless transition!

WOWEE!!! Da jam wuz mo fun dan da gig!!! Or.... maybe not. Mahalo nui to all da Guyze, new and old. Kory & I met Al at a Hawaiian thing on the Puyallup res in March & ask him to com jam wid us at da Kona Kitchen. He became one of da guyze afta dat. We ask Retro to play with us when our buddy, Tiko Ka'eo couldn't make da gig. Nice hula & good bottom to our music. Hilinai was supposed to come out of da crowd for a numbah. We met Gary at about 1 & started to jam. After 3 hours of jamming, we threw away da set list and decided we'd ALL play. The set list was made up on the spot, and off we went! Mike did his usual sweet job with "Waikiki" and provided great solo ukulele. Da kanakas sang fabulously! Mahalo to all of our friends in the audience. I'm still smiling!!!!

And here it is:

Thanks Andy!

The lineup, from L to R:

Noeau, Retro, Mike Bristow, Thumbstruck's guitar (and knees), Gary, Hilinai (wit' da too-cool-for-school sunglasses and tattoo), and Slipry1.

Good going Guyz!

You fit right in, Bra! After all, Da Uddah Guyze byline is "Auntie's backyard, Hilo, 1948". This isn't our last gig together, either.
