Wanda,
Thanks for the message and the compliment. It took a lot of practice and pointers from Aunty Genoa. Its the ability to get just enough oxygen out from my lungs and diaphragm to produce the note needed to continue the AAAAAAAAAAA. There are days that my diaphragm does not want to cooperate...lol. Da potogeee I guess...lol. IT is also humidity and weather that plays a lot in singing too. To dry, no can, to wet; too much galagala...lol. Just right, and I can hold dat one (4 count) for 21 counts.
I still practicing to Aunty's albumns to ensure my vocal muscle does not forget how to maintain that note.

Oh yes, I used to listen to Uncle Joe's music when I was in high school, so that is where the yodeling comes in.

Same goes for me when I practice sometimes!
But, this leads me to what my voice teacher told me to do when I worked on it in my lesson last week. She said to try the phrase with the long note taking a normal breath and then just being so soft and straight that I could still probably go for a while, and then try doing it taking a huge breath and then letting it out slowly (which I had done before that) and see which way was easier for me. I find that taking the huge breath and then letting it out slowly works easier. And, haha, I think I sound more like Raiatea Helm when I sing it, but that's ok with me. She does a fantastic job on it too, I think. Have you heard it? It's recorded on "Sweet and Lovely."

Aloha and e komo mai to the Patch Gary! Ho'omaika'i on winning the Falsetto contest! I also like the song "Alika" too. I was born and raised in Honolulu and now I reside in 'Ewa Beach. WOW! good to see folks who grew up on O'ahu. Hope that you have fun and enjoy yourself here. Glad to see that you found this place.
