Actually this was an interesting mix of new winners, and prior, expected winners, with one and a half real surprise(s).
I am really happy for Kawika, and I can tell you that Andy and Lynette discovered him first. Good for him (and them). He was not the surprise, because it is about time his talent was recognized.
Amy, Keali`i - the hottest ticket in the Islands, Puakea Nogelmeier, Fred Krauss and Keali'i Reichel (WHO *EVER* does better liner notes), Les Frere Caz, Noland, Eddie and Myrna - who does it better among current artists recording?
The surprises are 1.Pekelo (Peter is back!) - we thought, 2 years ago, at Waihe`e, that he was getting serious again, but the scene being what it it is, we didn't know if anybody else would recognize it; and 2. Nathan - we thought that Barry would eclipse or drown him. We were, happily wrong. The guy is major. And, he is a sweet person, to boot.
Nice ending.

The annual Na Hoku Hanohano Awards are broadcast statewide here in Hawai`i -- this year I presented the "Group of the Year" award to those wonderful guys of Kaukahi.
