We rented a condo in Poipu on a word-of-mouth referral from Chunky Monkey. Because of the referral and the owner's trust in Chunk, we paid a fraction of the cost of a regular rental through an agency. The condo and grounds were beautiful and we were a little over a hundred yards from Brennecke Beach, which was boogie boarding heaven for the kids and about 100 feet from the pool. Kauai is very expensive so we feel very lucky to have found the place, which was in the sprawling Poipu Kai resort. The owner has a relaxed rate plan and gave us a great deal, plus he waived the cleanout fee.
A few hours after we arrived, the owner called to check on us and all went well. The microwave burned out while we were there and I insisted the owner use our deposit to pay for it, though he said no.
All in all, a wonderful way to stay on Kauai, unless you have megabucks. Then you can stay at the Grand Hyatt down the road.
