Why is Kapono not included or metioned by Keola very often--if at all?

They have been...what's the nice way of putting it?..."estranged" for many years, unfortunately. Stories have been circulating for years as to what the original cause of the rift was (and I won't repeat any of them here), but we respect his desire not to discuss it.

Thanks Retro
Confiming the observation is good enough for me.

Alas, Kapono Beamer has some of the best music available. Get his CDs if you haven't heard him lately. One of my favorites

So that you all know, that MySpace page is not done by Keola, and last I spoke with him not sanctioned by him, either. Like many artist pages, it's done by an anonymous fan someplace. As Retro mentioned above, out of respect for both brothers it would be best to leave the original subject alone, not speculate or spread the many stories that have been circulated previously.

The picture looks very recent. I recall Keola looking very much like that last December '06.
However, I am not interested in looking into it further.

It is not easy to work with family, especially when one has an inflated ego and the other is stubborn as a mule. Although they are both high level solo artist, they are more powerful together. But I think the duo can still hit gold if they would work together fresh. Let go of the past guys and do your magic again. We need more innovative artist producing the real stuff instead of all the copycats we got now who are falling back on tradition from the lack of direction. Keola and Kapono led the way into the future of Hawaii's music scene back in the heyday. Now people are in an Iz daze and happy with the regenerated junk we hear on any Hawaiian station. I'm talking about the stuff in the last 5 or ten years. Someone show us the future, please!!!!

Stay Tuned...

The pic is a couple of years old. It is on his real website which I still help him maintain. I emailed him when I saw the MySpace site and he told me he wasn't doing it, nor was it being maintained by anyone affiliated with him.

My heart breaks each time I think of the stupid, unimportant little conflicts that keep siblings from enjoying each other to the fullest. Especially so since my little brother was found dead in his truck one night several years ago. He was only 54.

Wish I had made more music with him when we had the chance....

Julie - you are so right! Paul and I were pretty much estanged from his immediate family because of bull-headedness on the part of both me and one of his brothers. The brother was in NYC on September 11, 2001 on a business trip. It took a while for him to be able to get back home and he was emotionally devastated. He died of a massive heart attack at home on September 29. I never got to apologize to him for my bull-headedness. However, his death brought us back to the family. I learned that they do not have to be perfect nor must I be perfect. It takes two sides to make an argument work.

Life is very full of should-a, would-a, could-a's.

Me ke aloha
Malama pono,

As much as I hate falling into quotes and platitudes - the future has yet to be written.

No one can show us the future; but we can create it ourselves.

Wanda,

Thank you for sharing such a deeply moving occurrence. My heart is with you. Thank God I had no "unfinished business" with either my father who died in an accident and my brother who died of a heart attack 2 months after that. Otherwise I would be a horrible basket case right now.

Aloha no, Julie

I remember that picture well, from July 2001, when they performed "Honolulu City Lights" at Kimo McVay's funeral. McVay was an entertainment promoter in the Islands, and was Manager to the brothers for many years. They entered from opposite sides of the stage and performed that one song (with John Kolivas on bass) to honor their old friend.

I hate to be a stickler but this one is personal. It is "McVay".

Entertainment promoter Kimo Wilder McVay passed away in June 2001. He was the son of CAPT Charles Butler McVay III and Kinau Wilder; his mother was of the Hawaii Wilder family for whom Wilder Avenue is named. CAPT McVay was the skipper of the ill-fated USS Indianapolis that was torpedoed and sank in the last days of WWI. The Navy blamed CAPT McVay. CAPT McVay later took his own life. He was exonerated by the US Congress in 2000.
