Hi, Ron - just "saw" you over at HawaiiThreads moments ago.
Slipry1 is Jack A., the guy I mentioned (as Leo) that I have the pleasure of playing alongside, whenever possible. Not only is he a fantastic steel player, but he's got a great touch on a LOTTA instruments - Hawaiian steel just happens to be his love now, and we in Seattle are lucky for that. |

E Ron. Good to get to meet a fellow student. Jerry got sick mid way through my studies. So now I'm working it by my self with his book. I play kiho'alu and I just struggle with the bar. I can't get around those picks as well. So any way I hope you keep posting we like to hear from people who have something to share. |

Cool, thanx guy's!
For you all on Oahu, just got the buzz from Colin Alder, whom makes the very fine 'Cruztone' steels, and is heading this way early next week with an 8 stringer for anyone interested to test drive. I may pick it up at the airport and head over to Bobby Ingano's house and then pass it along to Jeff Au Hoy to gig with and share. That's the initial plan so far, anyway. So, if there is anybody wanting in on this, just give a shout, and maybe Jeff will be willing to help set up something more reasonable for all involved.
The steel is equipped with a special Aiello/Lollar pickup that will set it apart from most other steels on the current market, and few if any can be found in the State. So, this could be a once in a lifetime opportunity for many. |

I'll be happy to, but, it's a long shot, as my computer access/ability is quite limited. Jeff may be able to help tho, I'll ask.

Saw the Cruztone pictures. Pretty snappy! I like the placement of the knobs - won't need a volume pedal to adjust attack. Cost for the 8? |

I think (don't quote me), $1700. I have the proto type at home right now, and it's built like a tank, with lots of metal parts, and superb craftsmanship thruout. Sounds like a fry-pan on steroids. The current price range for top quality steels is beyond my reach, but anyone in the market for one should definitely consider these babys. I'd say, it would appeal much more to the country stylers, than Hawaiian kine, due to the inherent brightness of the overall tone. A bone/non metal nut would most likely change the tone considerably towards something more ergonomic/earthy. |
