E-Mail from Makaha Sons:

Aloha friends!

This is just a short update that we had to share with you. The Sons are in Nashville after having left Florida and are preparing for their upcoming performance.

First, today, July 30, is Moon’s Birthday and everyone in the Makaha Sons Family wishes him a most joyous birthday!

Second, Sharlene has just sent some pictures of proud Grandpa John Koko meeting his grandson, Pai‘ea. The gallery has just been posted and you are the first ones to know! http://www.makahasons.com/images/photo_galleries/07302007_paiea/pages/006.html

We’ll be sending out a regular newsletter soon, but we just had to share this with you!

We’ll see you soon,

Sharlene and Kawikanui

Me ke aloha
Malama pono,
Wanda

Will see them on Saturday. It's hard to imagine John a grandpa. When I first met him and the boys, they were playing at the Ranch House in Aina Haina and John was only 23 and now he's almost 47 (August 24). My how time flies.

It was great seeing the Sons again last Saturday. Since they got rid of the evil Kata, they're much more pleasant to be around . The set started with some local group. I think their name was Island Rhythm or something like that. I thought they played much too long (half an hour) and their sound was quite weak. They sounded like some hotel band on Waikiki but what do you expect for Chicago? After a short break, the Sons came on and blew everyone away. They played along with Hoku Zuttermeister doing a few songs for 90 minutes but they didn't do a hana hou.

There was plenty of hula because there was a workshop going on during the day and several local halau strutted their stuff.

The Sons did a few songs I hadn't heard them do before, which was refreshing and it was a good mix of hapa haole and traditional music, which I prefer. The audience was all dressed in their finest aloha wear ... lots of leis and haku leis.

They didn't have much merchandise with them, only their DVD and Hoku's CD. It was nice catching up with Jerry's wife, Londa. She made this trip and was handling the merchandise.

Five of us from our choral group went and we're all tenors and basses so everyone appreciated Jerry and Hoku's falsetto because none of us can hit any of their notes!!!

It was announced that they would be back again next year. It was almost a full house.

Lovin' Lee is my favorite pasttime!!
