Ki ho`alu players in the San Francisco Bay Area, especially Contra Costa county and the East Bay, I'd sure like to try playing with someone else, hearing two or more guitars, sharing licks and tips.
Anybody out there?

It took a while but Jerry Sullivan and I finally hooked up. He stopped by last night with one of his vast collection - a Rainsong WS-1000. Since Jerry is a student of Patrick Landeza and of the Ozzie book, we had plenty of common ground. It's always a pleasure to meet another player.

Thanks for the report! I hope more players will be getting together in the future. Wish I could have been there too.

Thanks for the opportunity Fran. I enjoyed the visit and hope that I will be able to contribute more as my skills improve. Your fine playing could certainly help me in that regard. Lets do it again soon. Sulle

Slack key in Paia - I'll be there in just a minute. We spent a month in Maui last year, home based in Kahana but we loved our visit to your part of the valley isle. Enjoy your music and your coffee, and I hope to join you soon.

Wassssssup Fran!
Just wandering....when you were here on maui, have you ever attended George Kahumoku Sr's "Summertime Slack Key Workshop"? He holds them every year in that area somewhere. A friend of mine who's another slack key guitarists went to last years one.
He really enjoyed being amongst the multitude of "Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar Players" made up of beginners as well as seanoned ones from all over the U.S.of A.! And the furthest yet, was a brother and sister all the way from India! Wow!
Hey! Who knows! We may just cross paths when you come to Maui again! But for now keep spreading the Beauty and Sound of "Kihoalu" back home! A Hui Hou!

No, I didn't get to George's camp. And even worse I didn't get to the museum for the kanikapila or even to visit with Uncle Sol. I did try to bring my beginner's Ozzie Book ki ho`alu to the Kahana side, though. I played by the pool every day, and down at the beach, and by the Lahaina library. Some friends had a wedding on top of the volcano and I played there. And some other friends had a big baby shower in Kula and I got in a couple of numbers there.
My only lesson was a half hour with Keoki Kahumoku. He showed me some nice stuff, but I felt terrible because we did the lesson right before a gig, he tuned up to my standard taropatch and then tuned back down to his E version, and had to retune after every song for the whole gig.
Since then I've done workshops with Keola, Ozzie, and George here on the mainland, but it looks like I won't get to any of the camps this year. I can't imagine anything better than hanging with great players like the ones you mention in the other thread, though.
