I was listening to some music today, a compilation which featured the following folks. Any one have any history of these gentlemen:

Wanda, do you have this CD? The liner notes of "History of Slack Key Guitar" are filled with information about the musicians and their mele: http://www.dancingcat.com/recordings/HistoryCord.php
And always try using www.google.com to search for info -- even if you have to wade through some links that are useless!

Here's his obituary -- survived by 45 grandchildren, 69 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great-grandchildren!!:
Henry Kaimiana Kaalekahi, Sr. Jan. 13, 2004 Henry Kaimiana Kaalekahi, Sr., 85, of Honolulu, a retired Honolulu firefighter and musician, died in the Queen's Medical Center. He was born in Alika, South Kona, Hawaii. He is survived by sons Henry Jr., John, and Charles; daughters Mildred Kaimikaua, Maraea Monteilh, Helen Hew Len, Libbie Ann Chock, and Jackilyn Simeona; brother Lorrin; sister Magnolia Hammel; 45 grandchildren; 69 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren. Services: 7 p.m. Friday and noon Saturday at Borthwick Mortuary. Call after 6 p.m. Friday and after 9 a.m. Saturday. Burial: 2 p.m. at Hawaiian Memorial Park. |

This is usually the case with Hana Ola/Cord International CDs, but the liner notes for this CD are heavy on information about the performances and tunings and severely lacking in biographical information about all but a few of the artists. This is not a criticism. If Harry B. Soria, Jay Junker, and Alan Yoshioka were on the case and turned up so very little, then there was probably very little information to be found.
