SONGS FROM HAWAI'I ISLAND, Na Mele Moku 'O Keawe

http://www.dkdzinesource.com/BIGISLANDdemo.mp3

"This project was inspired by Japan and its people, whose aloha and enthusiasm for Hawaiei and its culture has no bounds. In collaboration with the Big Island Visitors Bureau and musicians performing on Hawaiei, the Big Island, these musical artists were asked to share songs that spoke of their homeland. The artists' songs (both traditional and originals) are based on their connections to eohana (family), eaina (land) and kai (ocean) of Hawaiei Island. Those who have visited our home, or now call Hawaiei their home have come to realize how special this place really is. Hawaiian songs boast about the beauty that surrounds us and of experiences that tell stories of how we live as people. Our hope is that songs such as these continue to inspire others to live with much aloha."

Interesting -- this is along the lines of the 3-volume "Mele Hula" CDs, issued in 1998-2000-2001...with many of the same musicians.

The first volume of the set was inspired by the book "Mele Hula: Hawaiian Melodies", which I think is now out of print. Published in Japan, it contains lovely pictorials, plus the lyrics and translations of the songs which were eventually included in the first CD of the set.

And if you like this CD, check out the three "Mele Hula" CD's mentioned above by Auntie Maria. The series is nicely produced and includes a wonderful variety of music by talented Big Island musicians.
