Yesterday my wife and I along with some other members of her Halau went to see the the Japanese made film "Hula Girls".

Check it out to see if it is playing near you. It's a great movie showing the spirit and determination of a group of Japanese "coal miners daughters" in becoming preforming Hula Dancers. Jake Shimabukura did the sound track (his first movie soundtrack).
Bring some kleenex if you go.

The US release of the soundtrack is scheduled for Sep. 18.
It's a fun film; we saw it at the Seattle International Film Festival back in June. Thread (well, my one post - not much of a thread) at: http://www.taropatch.net/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=5234 |

Just ordered a copy of Hula Girls (English subtitles) from ebay. Costs $11.95 + $5.50 shipping. |

Aloha, I saw trailers for it on youtube. I don't think it's playing near me though. Is all the dialogue in Japanese?

When we saw it, it was - along with subtitles (sorry, `Alika.) I doubt that the DVD would be dubbed into English; I don't see anything that would suggest that.. |

FWIW, that eBay link shows a modified version of the cover art for the memorial boxed set version of the movie...there's a good chance it's a gray market copy. |
Craig My goal is to be able to play as well as people think I can. |

Thanks for the info Craig. You're probably right, especially given the price.
I didn't know what the gray market was so I looked it up. Amazing what we learn from this board.
