A little something for the "Hawaiian Music" side of this topic . . .
Kalae Miles (who has recently been talked about under Performances/Event Announcements in relation to the festival in Kalama, Washington) recently did a special workshop for 4th graders in the Tacoma area . . . teaching them a chant, a hula and a song.
Check this nice video out for a quick peek at his style . . . not only as a performer, but also as a teacher (including his amazing ability to keep the attention of over 100 4th graders for an hour and a half on the second day of school!):

I'm confident that we'll all be hearing a lot more from and about this talented young artist in the years to come.
Mahalo, Kalae, for making these kids very happy while sharing your music and culture with them!

That was spectacular. How he warmed my heart! Then I got chicken skin. Obviously talent in more than just music. I'll bet what he taught those children will be with them forever.
Kalae - thank you for opening your heart to those youngsters and for sharing your talents and knowledge. |

Very nice package about Bobo and the day at school. (That sounds like a book I read in kindergarten!) Who put that together? Jesse |

Aloha e Jesse! It was filmed and edited by Tyler Wing, a good friend/neighbor who just happens to be conveniently between jobs as a TV reporter/videographer at the moment . . . so we put him to work! Pretty sure he has a variety of other clips up on youtube. He did a great job and had fun hanging out with Kalae in the process.

It was a lot of fun---I didn't know 4th-graders could be so quiet <G> Now I've got his little "Nana na maka..." tune stuck in my head. Thanks again Dr C for putting it together (& letting me'n'Susy come along) |

Jean,
Bobo tells me he had a great time with all of you up there at Kalama days, he couldn't stop talking about it. Thank you for making him feel welcome, he's a very special and dear friend, and extremely talented as well.
He also tells me we may all have to come up next year! I'll get the RV ready!
Aloha, Julie |
