As I picked up my bag at the airport after a trip through Portland...
the lady who had sat with her husband and baby in the row ahead of us, asked about my Ki Ho Alu shirt...
We hadn't talked till then...
her grandfather was a HSG player of some notoriety in around the 20's 30's and maybe 40's if I got the facts straight...seems like she said, "Sam Kua...something" , but that he often went by Sam Kua (more or less what I heard, in a busy airport!)
the name was much longer than this shortened version, and I may have missed the actually spelling...I tend to be visual...I don't believe it appears to be the other Sam K...who recently passed.
Haven't had a response from her to my e-mail...we were all in a bit of a rush to get to our rides and families...but it was an interesting and, probably, once in a lifetime thing...
hate it when I miss an opportunity to communicate and connect better with people...
Anyone recognize who this grandfather was???

It's possibly the Sam...Thanks...
Not sure how many Sams there are, we did, however, count the Henrys and found eight...
If I ever hear from the grand-daughter, maybe I can confirm this Samster...seems a likely Sam he is...
Of course, there's Sam and Dave
Sam the Sham and the Pharoroh Gnomes
Anyway, now I've gotten curious about Sam Ku West....
So the knowledge web grows...while the memory is diminishing...not fair.
Sam I ain't.

Basil, I really enjoyed reading these! Thanks feller!

Mind you, I live in Yorkshire, where 'thee' and 'thou' are still used in every day speech - I can imagine the dialect will be quite baffling to our American cousins, though!

Not as difficult as some of the Scots songs: There were twa corbies in a tree , Down derry derry down. Or our own Mairzy Doats.

I'd forgotten about Mairzy Doats! When I was a kid, it was traditional, when anybody mentioned the Mersey Docks and Harbour Board to add "and liddle lamsey divey".

Maisy dotes and dozy dotes

And little lambsy tivie,

A kiddily tivvy too

Wouldn't you.

....THEN....

If the words aren't clear

And funny to your ear,

A little bit jumbled and jivy....

SING :-

Translated :-

Mares eat oats
and Does eat oats
and Little Lambs eat Ivy,
a kidd'll eat Ivy too,
wouldn't you ?

D'you know, it's a common thing for people of my parent's generation to say that music was much better in their day, and that today's music is just a load of senseless noise and you can't make out the words.

Your honour, the council for the defence would like to draw your attention to exhibit A above....

Out here, where the busses don't run,
it's nice to have company...
once in awhile I remember to check out the old posts,
it's amazing where we end up sometimes.

And just when the nonsense gets out of hand, along comes something that, even taken slowly, makes perfect sense. Like "I'm My Own Grandpa". When that starts making sense to you, it's scary.
