Waialea Jammin'
George Kuo - 6 and 12 string guitars and vocals Martin Pahinui - Bass and vocals Steven Hall - 6 string guitar and vocals Danny Akaka - ukulele and vocals
2001 Kekani Productions P.O. Box 1941 Kamuela, HI 96743
This is a two CD set of standards recorded live at a party in late 2000, and was produced as a benefit for Steven Hall after he suffered a stroke. This is another great example of slack key in a group setting.(this intro from a post of Fran's)
1st CD ======
Opening Kama`ilio Hanohano Hawai`i Waikiki Pua Mamane Kaula `ili Nani Wai`ale`ale Hi`ilawe Panini Pua Kea Whee Haw Swing Livin' on a-easy Sweet Someone Pua Lilia Ipo Lei Manu I Ka Po Me Ke Ao
2nd CD ====== Opening Kama`ilio He`eia Kaualoku Lu`au Hula Moloka`i Nui A Hina `Ahulili Moani Ke Ala Nani Kauai`i Kilakila Na Roughrider Mauna Loa Manu Kapalulu Blue hawai`ian Moonlight
I listen to this one quite alot. I think because it IS live and raw. You hear the musician's banter, their interaction. And, though it's recorded at a party, the quality is really good; not too much background noise or distractions.
Oh yeah, the playing's great of course! It's really a fun set of songs.
One problem it has is a production error, which printed the tracks on the wrong, opposite CD. This could be an advantage, as you then have the other disc to look at with the names of tracks playing on the other disc :)
They're $25, including shipping, from Patrick Landeza's Pu`unaue Productions(see post below).

Aloha käkou,
We love this CD set. It really makes us feel like were "there" cuz it's live, and you just feel like you are sitting nearby with a bunch of other folks, watching the show, with breezes and palm trees and all. Between songs, you can hear the musicians joking and talking about what they should maybe play next. Great fun.
Oh, and Great Music, needless to say!!

Aloha kakou, I was able to buy this CD from the Kuo/Pahinui/Mahi show in Santa Cruz last summer, and I enjoy it because it makes me feel as if I'm right there, lying on my blankie with a Mai Tai, listening to the music and the soft rustling of the wind through the cocopalms. Sigh... When I drive my commute to the Silicon Valley, I plug in this CD and get transported to a different time and place. Julie |

When I bought my copy from George Kuo last year, I was planning to get it added to the mele.com inventory -- to assist with the fundraising. This discussion is prodding me to get on with those plans!! Where does the time go?????
There are soundclips provided here: http://www.mele.com/v3/info/2258.htm
Enjoy!
