No wonder I stay married 35 years. As most of you know, this week Wednesday, October 3 was official pau hana for me, after 28 years of service to DoD. My wonderful husband sent me today a beautiful flower arrangement of red ginger, various colored anthuriums and other tropical flowers, which I do not know. It is so beautiful. He signed the card"Wanaka wen' stay pau hana. Aloha. Paul".
Is that a swell guy or what?

Well done Paul! Between the flowers and Oni`oni, you're doing well. I officially grant you the title of SNAG - "sensitive new age guy." For further definition of the term, see Christine Lavin's song. |

Very nice, and congratulations on your retirement!
I understand you have aquired an uke as well.
Warning! DO NOT practice too much at one time! Older limbs cannot take too much repetitive stress. (nobody's can actually)
Limit yourself to 20 minutes of continuous practice at a time, and take at least a 10 minute break with stretching and relaxing of the hands, before starting again. And even including breaks, do not rehearse for more than 2 or 3 hours at a time.
I know several recent retirees who dived into playing an instrument too intensely and had very serious Carpal Tunnel or de Quervain's tenosynovitis for months or years afterward!
So just take it easy and slow at the start, and have fun!!

This sounds like one of those "What She Said- What He Heard" thingies. She said Swell New Age Guy. I heard Stink Eye. I might have to change my signature to Swell Aged Stink Guy. We compromise. Actually, Wanda hasn't ordered her new Ukulele yet. I can't wait for her to learn so we can kani ka pila . Hard to find anybody in Ohio, so I'll grow my own jam buddy. Been making beautiful music 35 years, might as well use instruments. Paul |

See...what did I tell you.... What a guy!
But I know Momi has one guy like this, too.
Waiting until I get a check for all my unused annual leave before I buy one `ukulele and accoutrements. |

Well --- not quite "35 years" worth (though she may say it feels like it sometimes.) |

Yep I got a bad case of tendonitis last summer. I could not golf all summer long. I injued my elbow playing guitar too much. it's true, heed the advice or at least quit when you feel a twinge. The injuries sometimes take months to heal. |
